About

Hello and welcome to my blog dedicated to the Storm archetype in the Modern format of the trading card game Magic: The Gathering! The purpose of this blog is to create a centralized space where people can discuss strategy surrounding Modern Storm.

First, a little bit about me. My name is Mitch Blankespoor, and I’ve been playing Magic since shortly after Dark Ascension came out (2012) while in college in Grand Rapids, Michigan. After playing a year-and-a-half or so of Standard, I decided to invest into Modern after I saw Thoughtseize being re-printed in Theros (2013). In the year that followed, I bounced around from deck to deck until I came across Storm. To make a long story short, I’ve been hooked on Storm ever since! I feel like it’s one of the more difficult decks to play in Modern, while at the same time, believe it’s very rewarding.

I am a full-time athletics communications professional that works nearly every weekend during the academic year (August-to-May). Due to my career choices, I cannot often travel to big events. In fact, I’ve only played in one Grand Prix (made day two I might add) and a couple of Star City Games (SCG) 5Ks (now referred to as Classics). My only large tournament success was getting second place at a 200-person SCG 5K with Jund, the archetype I play when not Storming people. I basically play small local events in suburban Cincinnati (when my schedule allows it) and grind Magic Online (mblanko is my username).

I don’t claim to be an expert with the deck. The purpose of this website is to help all who visit it, including myself, improve. I also hope people will use this blog as a central location for all things Modern Storm including deck lists, metagame forecasts, opinions, etc.

Enjoy!
