Where I’ve Been and Where I Hope To Go

Hello StormTroopers,

It’s been over a year since I’ve posted an article on this website, and I wanted to come clean as to why the absence and the future of this site and myself and Modern Storm.

The year 2020 was a difficult one for many people. Despite having more “free time” due to my job in collegiate athletics being slowed down due to the pandemic, my drive to play Storm and Magic in general wasn’t there. I think this is for a couple of reasons. First, I became a father for the first time in late 2019, and I couldn’t justify spending time away from my wife and daughter, sitting in my home office jamming MTGO. Second, without paper Magic events to attend (when I can), I felt even less drive. Third, and the one that will probably resonate with most people who have played Magic for a long time, I just got burnt out. I have been playing Magic, though not at a full-time capacity, for the better part of eight years. All of these factors alongside the majority of Magic’s formats being quite stale called for a “hiatus”.

Did I expect the hiatus to be a year long? Absolutely not. I expected to be back jamming MTGO matches and leagues within a month or two. But that didn’t happen. I delved into some other games during 2020, some of which I still enjoy. I didn’t fell the drive/want to play Magic or, more specifically, Storm. I told myself I’d stay away for as long as I needed to. To everyone that has visited this site before, even during the long haitus, I’m sorry. I feel like I’ve let everyone down during this time. I just couldn’t get myself to make any kind of content, let alone play much Magic at all. I’m not joking when I say I have probably playing less than a half-dozen matches of Storm in the last year.

Now to the good part. Maybe it’s the banned/restricted update, maybe it’s random happenstance, maybe it’s time, but I feel the urge to play Magic, and most importantly, Storm again. It will probably be a couple of months before regular content begins again on this site as I’ll need to get back into the swing of playing matches daily. I’m sure I’ll punt a bunch of matches, but damn, I’m excited to.

If you’re still reading by this point, thank you. I appreciate your patience and understanding as I took a break from Magic and Storm, and I can’t wait to rejoin the Modern Storm community again.
